Music

At Bannerman Road, we aim to engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and to recognise their talents as musicians through singing, listening, composing and performing music.

We believe that participating and enjoying music benefits children in many ways including increasing their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

In the EYFS, the children learn about music through engaging in songs and rhyme as well as rhythms and patterns. As pupils progress through the school they develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to both compose music and to analyse the music they listen to.

In Key Stage 1 and 2, music lessons are adapted from plans and resources on the musical education platform, Charanga. This ensures children have repeated opportunities to learn about the seven inter-related elements of music - timbre, texture, rhythm, melody, beat, harmony, structure, tempo, pitch and dynamics. As well as these lessons, children have the opportunity to sing in multi-year group singing assemblies, school choir, class assemblies, year group performances and Trust-wide events. Children also have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument from an external music teacher and, organised by the Bristol Beacon, have the valuable experience of participating in whole-class ensemble lessons and performances.
